Tastefully restored house with annex on the “domaine du bac”: the lock keeper’s house. The house is situated directly on the shores of the river Saône (swimming possible, mooring possible), just outside a picturesque village with 200 inhabitants, 4 to 4,5 hour drive from Calais. The restoration has been ongoing: the access road has been paved in 2007, the main house has been insulated in 2012, the annex in 2013 and the two roofs have been renewed in 2013. All windows, sills and doors have been replaced in 2012; all of them have double glazing. In 2016 the kitchen has been completely renewed. Electricity, sewer system and drinking water filtering have been renovated in 2014. In 2021 all the wooden shutters have been taken down, restored and replaced. The first floor has two bedrooms and an intermediate shower room with washing basin and a toilet. In the annex, the first floor contains two “en suite” bedrooms.

On the 2nd floor the attic is still in its original shape and not in use; it can, if needed, be isolated and converted into a third bedroom.

The complete house is well insulated, so that the wood burner in the fireplace can heat the house even during most of the winter; central heating (with the burner installed in the annex)can be used in very cold weather.

Electricity is up to date, with separate power for several types of connections (like cookers, hot water boilers and radiators). Currently the house has a telephone line and broadband Internet (ADSL/VDSL-2, 35 Mb). Satellite Tv is installed.

The house is surrounded by the garden of 1970 square meters, surrounded by a thick hedge all around. The garden goes all the way to the river. No building is allowed on the grounds surrounding the houses of the domaine, due to the protection of the wetlands of the river that have been listed in “Natura 2000”. The domain is situated on elevated ground, high enough to be above the highest possible water levels of the river.

A 500 m (dead end) lane connects the house with the village (no traffic, but walking distances). The village has a restaurant, a “depot de pain” and a post office. More shops and a supermarket are at 6 kms. Nearest cities are Vesoul (30 minutes, train station, hospital) or Besançon (train, Tgv, hospital and all commodities). Nearest airport is Basel-Mulhouse (2 hours). The drive to Calais is about 4 to 4,5 hours
